Friction & Gravity

In the Classroom/Before you go:

An excellent resource for helping students to understand gravity is a Magic School Bus video about collisions. Ms. Frizzle’s students play baseball without gravity. Watch the video with the students and then prepare a classroom discussion of forces in general, and specifically, Friction and Gravity.

  1. What is a force?

  2. What is Gravity?

  3. Where can you find it?

  4. What is Friction?

  5. Where can you find it?

Ask the students to think about the following questions:

  1. If we could turn off friction, what would the rides look like? Why?

  2. If we could turn off gravity, which rides would still work? Why?
