Making A Tally Chart

A tally chart can help you keep track of items you are counting. Sometimes you need to count many different items. It may be hard to count all of the items of the same type as a group. That’s when a tally chart can be helpful.

Make a tally chart of rides seen

Every time you count one item, you make one tally.

When you reach 5, draw the 5^th tally as a line through the other 4 tally lines.

You can use your tally chart to make a chart with numbers.

To find the total number of one kind of ride, count by fives and then ones.

You can use your chart with numbers to make a graph.

Make a bar graph or a pictograph of your results.
