It was the Los Angeles Club's turn to host the Memorial Day event that is alternated each year with the Sacramento Club.  The Federation sponsored Team Matches saw six four-person teams playing on Friday, May 27 followed by the 36 hole medal play event played on Saturday and Sunday.

 

There were changes in venues this year that included playing the Industry Hills Ike Course on Friday for the team matches and the Industry Hills Babe Course for the first round of the tournament.  These courses located in City of Industry, CA, were used for the LPGA qualifying and were in excellent shape with tight fairways and “unreadable” greens making the putting very tough.  The Los Angeles Club’s home course, Royal Vista was played on Sunday.  The two tournament rounds were shotgun starts at 8:00 am.  The three day event was played under excellent weather conditions.

 

Socials included a Saturday evening open house at the Golden Coast Buffet Restaurant and the awards dinner at the Ocean Star Restaurant.  There were side bets, horse races and plenty of raffle prizes at both socials.  Thanks to the host club for setting up a special table for the Federation meeting held on Saturday at the buffet dinner that had something for everybody.

 

This year, there were six Federation teams for the team matches including the Dragons, Los Angeles, Marin County,  Oakland, Sacramento, and San Francisco..  The winning teams were the Dragons, Oakland, and San Francisco placing first, second and third respectively.  The Ike Course played very tough, but was a great warm-up for playing the tricky greens that were also like the greens on the Babe Course Saturday.
