Palo Alto Site for Project PHYSLab II

July 1997

Day 4:

Today included an intensive work session with the accessories from the Digital Timer, but interfaced to the computer. Using the patented Project PHYSLab Digital Timer Adapter, participants repeated many of their previous labs using ULI's and PASCO 500's.

Today was also our first field trip. In the afternoon the group toured the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC), and saw where many discoveries in basic particle research were made. The group would like to publicly thank Mr. Jose Martinez for conducting such a marvelous tour and lending a teacher's insight into this facility and its operation.

Everyone was looking forward to the projectile challenge tomorrow. Check back on Friday to find out the results.

This is the group going up the walk to the auditorium at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.

In the foyer of the auditorium the group was given an introduction to how research is carried out at SLAC as well as a look at different displays. Our tour guide, Jose Martinez, is seen talking with the group.

In the klystron gallery, the 2-mile long tunnel disappers into the distance over the shoulder of the PHYSLabbers.
